I’m not sure I can quite believe this press release.
West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust, which ’manages’ Serco’s contract to run leisure facilities in West Lancashire, has the gall to put out a press release about £1,500 funding for additional free swimming lessons, when it and the Tory Council turned its back on hundreds of thousands of pounds for free swimming for under 16s and refurbishment of swimming pools.
I’m all for the free swimming lessons, and well done to the British Swimming ASA for making the award. But, really, the Leisure Trust and the council should be ashamed of themselves.
I’m also going to be writing to the council to question why the Leisure Trust, which already receives funding from the council to manage its affairs, is using the councils press office resources to forward its cause. They’re supposed to be stand alone with that funding, yet apparently still depend on the council to do its PR for it.
Is that a legitimate use of council resources at a time when we’re told money is so tight?
