Seeing as how Graham Turner has been kind enough to send me a freebie copy of his new book, it would be remiss of me not to mention it here, and say thanks.
It’s called ‘No way to run an economy: Why the system failed and how to put it right’.
I’ve not read it yet, but a skim suggests it’s mighty interesting. Here’s an article, on the Socialist Worker website of all places, he wrote to accompany its recent publication.
I’ll do a review when i’ve read it. Meanwhile, if anyone else writing socialist stuff wants to send me free books in return for a quick review when I get round to it, please feel free. They have to be good, though.

I’ve just had a short story published in a book whose sales benefit the British Heart Foundation. My story is pretty personal (short and to-the-point review here from Brian M in the comments section – http://www.21stcenturyfix.org/2009/09/edinburgh-and-small-print.html) and therefore surely political. Whether it is socialist though … that, I’m afraid, is a different matter and something you’d have to judge for yourself. As far as offering freebies is concerned, it costs a fiver and 75 percent goes to the BHF. Fancy *buying* a copy instead?
That’ll teach me to put close brackets after web addresses. Parser definitely in need of improvement, there. Here’s the web address again, without brackets:

I’ve got a few freebie books through the post (and indeed one online, after the paper copies were pulped on the orders of a libel judge) but have not formally reviewed any of them. One in particular, “The Bridge” irritated me so much I tried to give it away and in the end had to bin it.
Let’s get this right, young Mil. I put up a post which requires you to send me free socialist books for review, and you come back with the suggestion that I buy your book, which you’re not even pretending that hard is socialist, and not review it.
What kind of lily-livered blog do you think this is?
Oh, alright. Where do I send the cash?
