Well, Bickerstock is over for another year. I lost count of the number of the people who told me during the day (and night) that they thought the atmosphere was just right – full but not too full, friendly but well organised etc. etc.
Planning committee went from 7.30pm to about 11pm tonight. That’s not uncommon. Even with the best will in the world, it gets pretty tiring after an early start, and I really do wonder if there’s a better way to do it.
I’m off to bed, having kept to my resolution of a post a day till [...]
There are two consultations going on at the moment that Bickerstaffe resdents may find of interest, one on the Bypass, one on Edge Hill University’s plans.
I’ve posted stuff on website and discussion fora fairly rarely to date, because I’m not really that kind of writer – I prefer to go back to stuff and re-edit but by then it never really feels like ‘blog’ material. I guess it’s all part of being quite old, though the sites I’ve seen do appear [...]
I was out delivering the summer Bickerstaffe record tonight, and met a gentleman whom I’d only met first time on election day. He told me that was the first time he’d ever voted, and that he was really pleased I’d won.

This is all about the stuff I pick up at Council meetings that don’t fit with my local (Bickerstaffe) work but I think are worth reflecting on anyway.
Forgot to explain that I’ve set up this new category cos I’ve been appointed as opposition spokesperson on leisure and culture. I’m still checking out a lot of stuff, but my sense is this is likely to be a heavy blogging area from now on.
I happened into Ormskirk pool today with my children things because they wanted to do a mix of swimming, diving and attacking daddy with floats.
I was a bit suprised to see loads of poster advertising sunbeds with a tagline close to the ‘Tanarific’ one that you see all over the place at hight street sunbed [...]
The Bickerstaffe Record website is maintained, usually really badly, by me - Paul Cotterill, the Labour councillor for Bickerstaffe Ward, West Lancashire, England. It’s the flat green bit between Kirkby and Skelmersdale, and a really nice place to live and sort of work.
I’m a 44 year old bloke with prematurely white hair. My wife Phil, [...]
